‘Twister’ Game Gets a Tech Facelift

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

Remember the childhood game ‘Twister’ from Hasbro, where all you needed was a color board, a spin wheel and a group of friends to get the party started?  Yea—scratch that–you have officially been outdated. Welcome to 2011…Where Majesco Entertainment plans to bring ‘Twister Mania’ to Kinect (however it seems the game itself has absolutely nothing in common with the original, except the name).

Here’s what to expect:

  • Supports up to 8 players
  • Three different gaming modes with 4 variations totaling 16 ways to play with more than 1800 shapes
  • Variations: Creating shapes and challenge friends to recreate said shape (Spot On), positioning body to fit into a ‘hole in the wall’ (Twist & Fit), earn points on how well you can fit into a silhouette of a shape (Shape Frenzy), and surviving a puzzle of colored shapes as a wall crumbles above you (Break it Down).
  • Cost: $49 for the game
  • When: Expected release November 2011

What makes this even better is the snapshot photos of your body contortions after every play session. I think that in and of itself makes it worth it.

How about you? Will you be purchasing Twister Mania, or keeping it old school with the color board and spin wheel?

East Coast Quake Goes Social Media Viral

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

Earlier Tuesday afternoon an earthquake hit the east coast, the epicenter located in Virginia with rippling tremors from the Carolina’s up to Maine and reports in Canada. At the end of the day recorded at a 5.8 on the Richter Scale, the east coast had not experienced one of such magnitude in over 100 years.

Here at the eZanga office, most of the employees were on their lunch break in the diner or break room watching television, at first tremors seeming very minor and almost unnoticeable. As loose objects began rattling and shaking to a somewhat unnerving beat, some employees ran outside noticing that most of the other buildings in the Middletown professional center had evacuated as well (Ok, ok..we know, it really wasn’t that bad…but better safe than sorry?). Collectively we stammered to call/text loved ones; however, most of the networks were busy.

Immediately everyone up and down the east coast simultaneously turned to social media. “Customers in East may experience intermittent delay making/receiving calls after recent earthquake. This is a temporary mass calling event,” Sprint told their Twitter network. Followed by Verizon’s tweet, “There was some network congestion in the East after tremors. Continuing to monitor.” Facebook feeds flooded with accounts of the quake..and oh yea, don’t forget to check in to Earthquakepocalypse on Foursquare–you can earn a badge!

When all is said and done, it’s reassuring to know there is at least one form of communication the masses can turn to in case of emergency–thanks Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare.

Next week, Social Media and Hurricane Irene. Stay tuned.

iPhone 5… Coming Soon?

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

The next-generation iPhone is said to be released October 7th…or will it be in September? Honestly, it doesn’t matter since we are finally nearing the end of the long awaited iPhone prophecy. For months now, talk of the new iPhone (4s and/or 5?) has been circulating all over the web– predictions spewing on when, how much, what model(s), what features.  Whatever the truth may hold, one can expect some pretty sweet features (or serious let downs). Here are a few rumored highlights for the highly-anticipated iPhone 5:

  • ‘World phone’– capable of working on any network carrier
  • To the Cloud!- Wireless software updates…and scratch any type of data storage for that matter, thanks to iOS 5 with iCloud
  • Screen- Bigger, edge-to-edge with no home button making the next generation completely touch
  • Design-said to resemble a sleek teardrop shape along with being slimmer and lighter than previous models
  • NFC Technology- with all the buzz around mobile payment services, one can only assume Apple will introduce this into their next-gen

What would you like to see in the new iPhone?

Google Buys Motorola to Trump Apple

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

So here’s the run down: Monday morning, Google announced they plan to acquire Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. for $12.5 billion.  Larry Page, Google CEO says, “Motorola Mobility’s total commitment to Android has created a natural fit for our two companies. Together, we will create amazing user experiences that supercharge the entire Android ecosystem for the benefit of consumers, partners and developers. I look forward to welcoming Motorolans to our family of Googlers.”

Motorola ‘bet big’ and backed Android as the sole operating system on all of their smartphone devices since 2008, showing extreme Google-loyalty. The plan is for Motorola to continue on as a separate entity from Google, governing under Motorola CEO, Sanjay Jha.

So what’s the deal, why now? It seems Google’s primary motivator to Motorola can be broken down by the simple equation: 17,000 patents + another 7,500 patents in progress= Android software protection against anti-competitive threats from Microsoft, Apple and others.

The Federal Trade Commission still needs to approve the transaction (although it seems likely), but is projected to close at the end of 2011 or start of 2012. What are your thoughts?

Facebook Friday–Cops to Patrol Social Media, Bert & Ernie Buzz and…Expected Child Option?

Friday, August 12th, 2011

Time to get WEIRD. It’s Facebook Friday!

NYPD Fighting Crime via News Feeds

This week, the NYPD appointed social media guru, Assistant Commissioner Kevin O’Connor, to head the new juvenile justice unit. O’Conner and his team will be combing through social media sites including Facebook, Twitter and MySpace looking for information regarding troublesome house parties, gang showdowns and other potential mayhem, sources said. Earlier this week we saw through the riots in London, how social media is capable of fueling the masses. I wonder how long it will take for social media law enforcement to catch on in other major cities!

HOT TOPIC: Sesame Duo Bert & Ernie…Friends or Lovers?

How hot? Well, it appears the questioning of Bert and Ernie’s sexual orientation is trending one post every few seconds! Facebook users have been debating whether or not the Sesame Street muppet icons should tie the knot on air to teach children acceptances of homosexuality and same sex marriage. Facebook Page “Bert and Ernie Get Married” was created and has gained some traction with almost five thousand members in favor of the muppet nuptials.

However, yesterday Sesame Workshop released an official statement basically saying: just friends, just puppets= no sexual orientation, deducing there will not be a nationally televised muppet marriage.

Pregnant? Facebook Added “Expected Baby” Option

A little late on including this new feature, but Facebook has now given the option of including your ‘Expected Child’ with the name and expected date of birth. Your unborn child will now appear alongside other family members on your Facebook profile. Too much?

Amazon’s Kindle Cloud Reader

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

Want to read your e-book right on your computer or any browser?  Well now you can!

Amazon’s new Cloud Reader is a much more convenient way for people to read their e-books.  It is an HTML5-based web app where users can read and buy kindle e-books right on their web browser!  This will be very handy for people without Kindles and bring e-books to many new consumers.

The popularity of e-books have grown tremendously so this is a very smart move for Amazon.  This will bring in new customers who can’t or don’t want to purchase a Kindle and want to be able to read right from their computer.  The Cloud Reader also is great for people who just forgot their Kindle at home and want to read something since you have full access to your Kindle library.

The Kindle Cloud Reader works with Chrome (on Macs, PCs, Linux, and Chromebooks), Safari (on Macs and PCs) and even on Safari iOS 4+ on the iPad.  However, you can continue reading even if you lose your internet connection.

According to consumers, it looks and works great so far.

The only problem is that it is not compatible with iPhone yet.  Amazon recommends their free Kindle reader to read on your iPhone.  The iPad version of this app is most ideal because it is fully optimized for the gadget.  It is easy and simple to switch back and forth from your own library to the store.

The growing capability of web browsers is amazing, and all these clouds are making it easier for us to access personal files.  There are a lot of clouds out there right now, but no one really minds!
