Woman tweets about warrants out for her arrest and is later arrested
This should go without saying, but if you’re trying to hide from the police, don’t taunt them or tweet about it…or both. But that’s just what Mahogany Mason-Kelly did. She tweeted: “I still gotta warrant in pearland..those pigs will NEVER catch me!!!…NEVER!!!”
Well, the police officers in Pearland, Texas frequently monitor keywords such as ‘Pearland’ on social media to keep up with what’s going on around town. The police contacted the police at Lamar University, where she was a student, and they arrested her. It turned out that there were three warrants out for her arrest, as well as charges from impersonating her sister during a traffic stop because she knew there were warrants out for her.
Please, we’re begging you, think before you tweet.

She also has a picture of herself dressed like Lady Gaga, and one of her Tebowing. By reaching out to celebrities and her funniest supporters, she’s pretty close to her goal, with over 72,000 followers at the moment.
George Zimmerman’s legal team launches social presence
George Zimmerman, the man who shot Trayvon Martin, has now been arrested and has hired Mark O’Mara Law for his defense. This is highly unconventional, but the effect of social media in this particular case has been astounding. The defense team has launched a “George Zimmerman Legal Case” website, Twitter account, and Facebook page.
In a post on the website, the purpose of the social presence is outlined. Firstly, they are working to discredit fraudulent websites and social profiles. For example, someone notified the legal team via Twitter of a fraudulent website asking for online donations for Zimmerman’s defense. The social profiles are now working to spread the word about this and have the site taken down. The team will also be using the channels to dispute misinformation regarding the case and providing a voice for George Zimmerman.
Do you think this use of social media in a legal case could be a new trend? Tell us your opinions in the comments!
