Inc. Magazine recently released the annual Inc. 500|5000 list for 2012. The list ranks the top 5000 fastest-growing, private companies in the nation, according to percentage growth over the past four years. It started out as the Inc. 500 list in 1982, but the magazine expanded the list to the Inc. 5000 in 2007 to represent a “broader and deeper understanding of the entrepreneurial landscape, as well as recognize a larger percentage of this important and growing market segment.”
As Eric Schurenberg, the Editor-in-chief of Inc. Magazine, put it himself, being included on the list this year in particular indicates that a company “had to thrive through three of the toughest years this economy has seen in living memory.” The 2012 list of companies have proven growth potential and staying power. This is why eZanga.com is so pleased to have made the list this year, for the fifth year in a row. The economy has gone through a lot since 2008, when eZanga.com first appeared on the list in position #193. Schurenberg describes companies that remain on the list as creative, resilient, and tenacious.
Inc. Magazine also acknowledges the leaders of companies that make the list over a three day conference and awards ceremony in October. This year’s attendees will hear from Dave Kerpen, CEO and Co-founder of Likeable Media, Guy Kawasaki, Founder and co-founder of Garage Technology Ventures, Bert Jacobs, Co-founder and Chief Executive Optimist of the Life Is Good Company, Nick Woodman, CEO of GoPro and 8 additional distinguished business leaders.
But while there are keynotes and learning sessions, it’s far from your average conference. The event emphasizes networking and idea exchange between past and present list executives through recreation and celebratory events. In addition to speaker sessions, keynotes, and learning sessions, the conference includes recreational activities such as a day of service, golf tournament, sightseeing, and a black tie gala and awards ceremony.
Over the past 30 years, Inc.com has progressively shaped a program that goes beyond the traditional award structure. Company leaders return to their businesses with valuable feedback, innovative practices and new growth strategies to focus on the year ahead.
